The Dharmarajika Stupa, located in Taxila, is one of the oldest Buddhist sites in Pakistan, dating back to the 3rd century BCE. Commissioned under Emperor Ashoka, it was built to enshrine relics of the Buddha himself. The site includes a central stupa surrounded by small shrines and monastic dwellings.
The architecture reflects early Gandhara art, with stone carvings depicting Buddhist teachings and symbols. Archaeological excavations reveal the site’s evolution through centuries, offering deep insight into ancient Buddhist culture and scholarship.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dharmarajika complex remains a cornerstone of spiritual and archaeological heritage, embodying Pakistan’s ancient connection to the Silk Road and Buddhist civilization.
